Current official position
Chinese authorities state that local departments and booking platforms should not restrict accommodation operators from receiving foreign guests based on qualification requirements, and operators must not illegally advertise that they do not accept foreigners. Hotels register foreign guests using a valid passport or other international travel document.
Confirm late arrival
If arriving late, verify reception hours and that the reservation will be held.
Confirm payment
Ask whether the property accepts your card, Alipay/WeChat Pay or RMB cash.
Implementation can still vary at individual properties. Contact the hotel before paying a non-refundable rate, especially for small guesthouses or self-check-in properties.
